Economic Forces
Level of disposable Income
The level of disposable income has grew significantly from
1992 to 2005, this represents that people have more income
to expend after they had payed all the bills and necesary
payments causing an increment on the money they have to
afford what they really want; this can help the gym because
it is not considered a necesary service but a "luxury" service,
so if people have more money to expend on what they want,
the gym would be afected positively.
Interest Rates
The interest rates in Colombia have changed in the past 13 years, the
rate of intervention in the year 2000 was 12,0 and in 2013 was 3,25,
there you can see that it has dramatically decreased what make us
think that it will continue that way. The rate for consume, in 2000
was 28,77 and in 2013, 17,90 it has decreased. This infomation repesents
for the industry of sports more specificly, the gym, that people can
afford the service without having to pay the bank much more money
that what the service really costs making our demand to increment.
Inflation Rates
In the graphic presented, the pointed line, represents the inflation goals
Colombia has proposed since the year 2000. In the graph we can see
how the inflation rates had decreased in 13 years, knowing that the
inflation refers to a recurrent rise in the price index of a country,
analizying the data we could notice and understand that a low
inflation refers to low prices compared to what they where 13 years
so it is important to us that the inlfation mantains so we can have
more tdemand but not continue descreasing becasue this way we
would stop gaining because of the low prices.
Gross Domestic Product Trends
The Gross Domestic product in Colombia in the year 2013 was
$492.932 thousands of millions of pesos and if you compare it to
the GDP in 2001 it was $289.539 thousands of millions of pesos.
In the graph presented, the blue rectangles represents the variation
of the GDP in the past 12 years and we can se how it has grew
aproximately the double.
Unemployement Trends
The unemployement in Colombia for 2013 was of 9,65% while 12
years ago was of 14,95%, this shows how it has decreased
significatively in a decade and the trend is that it continues
decreasing. The gym can help to this value providing new
employements making the value to continue going down.
Worker Productivity Levels
For the analysis we are going to take the 8 most important cities
in the country for the year 2000. Cali presents the higher level of
productivity with 119.5, then Barranquilla with 114.7 and then
Medellin with 109.2. The lowest productivity levels of Colombia
are presented in Pereira with 70.7, Bucaramanga 78.7 and
Manizales 99.8.
Value of the Colombian Peso in World Markets
As we can see, 1 colombian peso represents 0,00052
dolars and 0,00039 Euros; taking into account this
information, we can infer that the Colombian peso
is a stock that has little value in international
markets meaning that with 1 peso, people can not
afford anything with just 1 colombian peso.
Stock Market Trends
COP USD
2008 $2.243,6 $1
2009 $2.157,6 $1
2010 $1.898,6 $1
2011 $1.848 $1
2012 $1.798 $1
Import/ Export Factors
Imports
As shown in the graph presenten by "Banco de la
Republica", we can notice that the mensual imports to
Colombia had increased in a good way in the past
6 years, what means for our industry that world
markets are more interested on bringing their products
to our contry. This can be a big opportunity because
the technology that a gym needs can be easily brought
helping the gym to innovate with new products and
machines.
Exports
Exports in colombia in the past 6 years had increased
aproximately the double what make us think that it
will continue increasing opening new and big markets
with other contries making the world know Colombian
Products. It is not a threat or an opportunity because as
the gym is a service the exports don't affect us, and
because the same reason, we can not export any type of
product.
Demand Shifts for Different Categories of Goods and Services
For the Demand shifts for different categories of goods and
services we took into account 3 different categories and the
demand and anueal variation of it from the years 2009,2010
and 2008, 2009. In the graph presented we wan see that the
category that has variated the most in this period of time is the
comerce, this means that the demand has grew significantly.
In addition, the category of Hotels and Restaurants is the one
that has suffered less changes in this period of time and as it is
the closest among this categories to the sports industry meaning
the hotels and the sports are complementary services. Eventhough
it has not grew as much as the others, it has grew so we can
inffer that it will continue that way allowing the sports industry
to grow with it.
Income Differences by Region and Consumer Groups
The income differences by region and the consumer groups can be evidenced
in the chart presented. In this, it showshow from the biggest regions of
Colombia the one who has more relative income is BogotĆ”, knowing that
this city is the capital of the country allowing it to have a 0,175% of the
total poblation just in a city and creating more money and having more
bussiness that other city in the country.
Is important to know this information because that way we can know
where in the contry the people have more income and with this, more
disposable income to expend in what they really want to do for example,
the sports industry.
Propensity for People to Expend and
Consumption Patterns
For us, this graph shows both, the propensity for people to expend
and the consumption patterns because with what they consume,
we can understand their propensity to expend. Here we can see
how recreation and culture is in what people consume more with
transport and clothes what represents a great opportunity for the
sports industry because we can se how people are propense
to expend on in and that the consumption patterns of a
typicall colombian is clothes, services (water, gas, electricity),
furniture, comunications, restuarants and recreation.

The Colombian Peso has decreased through the years respecting to the United States Dollar about 500 pesos, this shows that the markets between Colombia and the United States has opened
